Toddler’s Hat Crochet Pattern

Crochet toddler's hat (and real toddler)

Please note that this pattern is for personal use only.

If you’re new to crochet and these instructions don’t mean much to you, don’t worry! Everything is explained in Crochet Unravelled, where you will find more patterns and plenty of crochet advice!

Notes

The side facing you as you work is the right side (i.e. the outside of the hat).

The various coloured yarns are carried up at the back of the work when not in use, so do not cut a yarn when changing to a new colour until the pattern says so.

UK crochet terms are used throughout.

Instructions

Materials

4 mm hook

Tension

half–trebles = 4″ / 10 cm

13 rows of half–treble = 4″ / 10cm

Yarn

Any double knitting yarn can be used, providing the tension can be matched approximately.

Choose a soft yarn — toddlers soon discard scratchy hats!

Choose an acrylic or wool yarn or a mix of both.

The hat in the picture was made from 1 x 50 g each of red, white, and blue, which will probably be enough yarn for at least two hats. This pattern is ideal for using up left–over balls of yarn, so feel free to use whatever colours you feel go well together.
